Effects of Cybervictimization and Discrimination on Suicidal Ideation among Korean Middle School Students
Choi Jung-Ah

Abstract
This study intended to investigate the influences of perceived social predictors for suicidal ideation among Korean middle school students, over and above the influences of psychological predictors. Specifically, this study examined the effects of depression, stress, self-esteem, cybervictimization, and discrimination using hierarchical logistic regression analysis. The data of 3,775 middle school students nationwide were analyzed using SPSS 24.0. The findings showed that the final model where cybervictimization and discrimination were additionally entered was significantly improved compared with the second model where socio-demographic characteristics and psychological predictors¡ªdepression, stress, and self-esteem¡ªwere entered. Specifically, cybervictimization and discrimination had significant effects on suicidal ideation, controlling for the socio-demographic characteristics and psychological predictors. Given these findings, this study suggests that further studies on and intervention for cybervictimization and discrimination are required to prevent or reduce adolescent suicide.
